Origins and Founding Vision
Harmony Fields Animal Sanctuary traces its roots back to 1992 when the mother-daughter duo Mione and Cath Morrison established the Glendrick Roost Animal Welfare Centre, a registered charity dedicated to providing a “Home for Life” refuge for over 160 abandoned and abused animals. The creation of Glendrick Roost was driven by Mione and Cath’s firsthand understanding of the profound positive impact animals can have on mental health and overall well-being. Their dream was to create a sanctuary where both people and animals could find tranquillity and respite, fostering a unique environment of mutual healing and connection.
Building on the foundation laid by Glendrick Roost, Cath and her partner Ronnie embarked on a new chapter in 2017 with the establishment of Harmony Fields. Situated on a picturesque hillside near Balfron, Harmony Fields was conceived with the goal of offering everyone the opportunity to experience the same connection with nature and inner peace that Cath and her family had enjoyed over three decades. The sanctuary aimed to create a space where animals and people could coexist harmoniously, providing a refuge for animals in need and a sanctuary for individuals seeking solace and connection with the natural world.
In 2022, Harmony Fields reached a significant milestone by acquiring its own permanent home—5 acres of beautiful fields complete with a perfect stream near the village of Buchlyvie. This new location allowed the sanctuary to expand its vision and deepen its impact. Moving forward, Harmony Fields partnered with Rachel’s Farm, to offer peaceful connection opportunities and holistic well-being experiences in nature, enhanced by the presence of the sanctuary’s wonderful animals.
For over three decades, Harmony Fields has remained a family-run sanctuary, embodying the Morrison family’s unwavering commitment to animal welfare and the transformative power of human-animal connections.
What makes Harmony Fields different
Harmony Fields prides itself on offering a unique, hands-on opportunity for visitors to interact with and learn about each animal’s personality and special quirks. Unlike traditional zoos and other sanctuaries, Harmony Fields caps its daily visitor slots to avoid overwhelming the animals and ensure a more intimate and enriching experience for visitors of all ages. This approach underscores the sanctuary’s philosophy of putting connection before profit.
At Harmony Fields, every aspect is meticulously designed to prioritise the well-being of the animals and the quality of visitor experiences. The sanctuary’s unwavering commitment to using 100% of the funds from visits to rescue more animals from cruelty and suffering and to improve the habitats and facilities for existing rescues and visitors reassures visitors of the sanctuary’s dedication. By fostering a deep, personal connection between visitors and animals, Harmony Fields not only provides a haven for animals in need but also educates and inspires visitors to advocate for compassionate and ethical treatment of all living beings.
